Vicinity

Diffusion of Innovation

Release date

September 1, 2011

Vicinity is a progressive rock/metal band hailing from Trondheim, Norway. The band was founded in October 2006, and recorded their first demo the year after. In June 2008 they recorded a four-track EP entitled Diffusion of Innovation. “We recorded Diffusion of Innovation a couple of years back. Shortly after the release the band underwent a some line-up changes, and we feel that Diffusion Of Innovation never got the attention it deserves. That’s why we’ve decided to re-release it now,” guitarist Kim-Marius H. Olsen explains. “We’re a band with a vast variety of inspirational musical sources, and I can safely say that the music we created is something really unique.”

Diffusion of Innovation gives you 33 minutes of odd-metered time structures, intricate and speedy riffs and lots of melody. “We got to work with producer Børge Finstad at Toproom Studio,” elaborates vocalist Alexander K. Lykke. “He had worked with household names like Mayhem, Tristania, Sadus, Red Harvest, Turbonegro earlier, so this was a big step up for us. I can really say that it was a great experience and the result was outstanding.” Vicinity is working on material for a new release and is looking to play a lot of live gigs the coming months. If you want to know how the whole thing began or familiarize yourself with the band’s back catalogue you better check out Diffusion of Innovation.

There’s music [on this release] that can outdo lots of other bands I’ve heard throughout the world; even bands that do this for a living” – Icon Music Mag

I’ve heard my share of local demos and albums throughout the years within the metal/prog genre, but this beats anything one would anticipate from a young band like this” – Metal Norge
